Seattle Mariners
Baseball - Bet on Seattle Mariners with WillHill
The Mariners came into being in 1977 and played their first game on April 6, to a sell out crowd of 57,762 at the Kingdome, although they lost 7-0 to the California Angels. That didn't dampen the teams spirits.
The Mariners finished with a 64–98 record. In 1979, Seattle hosted the 50th Major League Baseball All-Star Game; Mariner Bruce Bochte had the game-winning hit for the American League in front of a sold-out Kingdome crowd. After the 1981 season, the Mariners were sold to California businessman and future U.S. Ambassador to Spain George Argyros.
The 70's and the 80's can only be described as the wilderness years for the Mariners with poor attendance lousy performances and record losses. After the 1988 season the club was once again sold. With the pick of the draft fans expected miracles and what they got was a record losing streak.
They managed their first winning season in 1991. The 1992-93 offseason, saw the Mariners hire manager Lou Piniella. Mariner fans embraced Piniella and he led the team from 1993 through 2002, winning two American League Manager of the Year Awards along the way.
The first home run in team history was hit on April 10, 1977.
