The first ABU DHABI Grand Prix was held in 2009 with the lap record being created by S Vettel in 1:40.279 The course designed by Herman Tilke hosted the first ever day to night race starting at 5pm local time floodlights were switched on from the start to ensure there were no problems moving from day to night. Sebastian Vettel won the first race for Red Bull.
