Races were held in Albert Park in the 1950’s but it was in 1997 when Damon Hill won for Williams in a race that was actually begin dominated by Jacques Villeneuve until oil pressure failure let him down that most people remember.
This circuit is hard on brakes and like most street circuits there is a lack of traction.
Albert Park is a great place to start the season which is why this circuit regained the start position the crowds are great Melbourne provides the perfect backdrop the track which is neither tight and twisty nor is it fast and flowing.
The danger points are the gravel trap at turn 1 and the narrow entry to turn 3 however the track soon opens up after that turn 6 The Clark Chicane provides an interesting interruption to the flow on the far side of the lake. Drivers start to pitch up at the Waite around a blind entry, Ascari a tight right provides a challenge for the reckless to try and pass.
