For as long as anyone can remember the Canadian GP was held at Mosport Park but in 1978 Montreal took over the local hero Gilles Villeneuve was following Jean Pierre Jarier for most of the race when Jarier’s Lotus broke a brake pedal Villeneuve went onto win and the track was named after him.

This track has walls close to the race line all the way round the circuit and if you put a wall in place you know a driver’s got to hit it. This tracks walls are now respecters of position either in fact the wall in front of the grandstand is known as the champions wall.

This circuit which is built on an island on the St Lawrence river is narrow the course provides lots of class action the second corner known as the island hairpin sees drivers get it wrong so many times as they scramble for position on the opening lap, you also see some good scrapes at the island hairpin or keep an eye on the final chicane.

In between you just have a track that is testing with high speed sweepers that twist along the north side of the island. So what makes it difficult this is a brake sapping boil your engine over kind of track no other track gets your engine at full throttle like this one despite the tight corners and tricky chicane.
