This track opened in 1986 and non other than Nelson Piquet won the first GP staged there. More impressive was Fernando Alonso’s first Grand Prix win here he total wiped the floor with everyone.
The down side to the track is the lack of overtaking opportunities, if a driver gets the first corner right he can pick a place or two on the first lap only after that the hairpin onto the start/finish straight at turn 14 makes it extremely difficult to replicate on any other lap. Having said that the drivers seem to really enjoy this track maybe it’s the series of esses along the far side turn 6 to 10.
This track is difficult due to high down force and it is hard on tyres with high temperatures cooling comes into play
