Fuji Speedway prior to 2007 last hosted a grand prix back in the 70’s when the death of a spectator and marshal caused the circuit to be dropped. This circuit is has a fabulous back drop of Mount Fuji. However F1 stayed away until 1987 when they moved to Suzuka.
The Japanese deal is to alternate between Fuji Speedway which is owned by Toyota and Suzuka which is Honda owned.
This is a fast and slow circuit the main straight is definitely fast and you have to brake hard at the end to make the tight right had hairpin which is really slow when it’s dry you can overtake but it rarely is. The track then dips slowly downhill, the track takes a left turn round coca cola corner before hitting the 100r which requires good skills and commitment. Another really slow bit comes with the hairpin at Hairpin corner before opening up again along the 300r as you head to Dunlop Corner a Chicane has been added here which coupled with the tight left Netz corner slows traffic down for the final corner.
