Designed by Herman Tilke, Sepang is a super track quite rightly regarded as the jewel in South East Asia’s crown, Bernie Ecclestone has been putting pressure on this circuit to hold night races. By announcing plans to hold a Grand Prix in neighbouring Singapore.
It seems along time since Mika Hakkinen arrived here with a two point advantage only to have Michael Schumacher ruin it all for him by holding him off while Eddie Irvine went on to win. The searing heat and humidity make this a testing circuit and if you come off watch out for the snakes.
This is regarded as a great racing circuit with a flow only drivers can appreciate the first corner flows back on itself providing great action on the first lap, and because turn 2 does exactly the same drivers are damned if they do and in a worse predicament if the don’t. The track is unusually wide and provides great side by side racing and with prime overtaking on the straight immediately in front of the grandstand the crowd really get to see some good action.
