Rumours of his retirement have been greatly exaggerated the man is still hungry and nobody could be more delighted than Honda. Born in Sao Paulo Brazil on 23 May 1972 Rubens has raced for Jordan, Stewart, Ferrari and finally Honda.
As a child his family home overlooked interlagos so it was always likely that Rubens would race with the Brazilian Karting title under his belt and a little Formula Ford experience when with the backing of a consortium of business men he headed for Europe before his 18th birthday. He soon won the European Formula Opel series then went onto win the British F3 title in 1991 he ranked 3rd in Formula 3000 and in 1993 he moved onto F1 he amazed everyone by finishing second in only his third grand prix for Jordan at Donington before his car failed. He again finished second for Jordan in Canada in 1995 the for Stewart in Monaco in 1997 and the Nurburgring in 1999, it took a move to Ferrari to get him his first GP win at Hockenheim he won a further 8 times before joining Honda in 2006.
