Wigan Potted History

They are known as the 'Latics'; Stadium is known as the JJB Stadium. Wigan Athletic, under the ownership of Dave Whelan the enigmatic chairman of JJB Sports and the management skills of Paul Jewell this small town club which was formed in 1932 have defied the odds and gained promotion to the English Premiership.

Season 1996/97 saw them become League Two champions and gain promotion to League One where in season 2002/03 they once again became champions gaining promotion to the Championship league, although they only finished runners up this season this momentous result ensures they will be playing in the premiership next season.
